Reverse vending machines that use vision technology—a camera or other scanning device—can identify if beverage containers are returnable by looking for symbols, markings, or other distinctive features on the containers. Vision technicians are eye care providers that work independently at Vision Centers, help ophthalmologists in the clinic, and take part in population screening initiatives. Students enrolled in the Vision Technician Course learn how to take patient histories, perform refraction and eye exams (including slit lamp and applanation tonometry), and compute IOL power using the keratometer and A-scan. Additionally, they receive training in community-based initiatives such as conducting screenings and surveys and educating the local population about eye care.
