Radiologic technicians, commonly known as radiographers, use X-rays to make images of specific sections of the body during medical exams. A doctor then interprets the photos for disease diagnosis and monitoring. Radiographers prepare patients for exams, shift them to the proper position, handling equipment, and use their knowledge and experience to reduce the patient's radiation exposure. Hospitals, medical labs, doctors' offices, and outpatient facilities employ radiographers. They may work full-time, part-time, or on-call shifts, as well as evening, weekend, and on-call hours. Radiographers can specialize and work in a variety of settings, including operating rooms, emergency rooms, procedural suites, and specialty imaging departments.
